St. Luke's, Sheen

The Church

There has been a church here since at least 1185, though the church we see today dates from 1852 and was partly designed by W. Butterfield at the request of landowner A.J.B. Hope who was much influenced by the Tractarian movement with its desire to rediscover mediaeval Catholic church-building styles. Some earlier fabric survives in the north wall however.

Parish Records
Historic records of St Luke, Sheen have been deposited at Staffordshire Record Office, where they are available for consultation by the public. These include the parish registers of baptisms 1595-1865, marriages 1595-1836 and burials 1595-1812.

A catalogue of these records is available in "Gateway to the Past" (http://www.archives.staffordshire.gov.uk) - the online catalogue of the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service. The Archive Service's website (http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/archives) provides further information on planning a visit to the office to consult records, should you wish to do so.
