The Church

The present building largely dates from 1781-1802 with additions in 1902 and the interior from 1877. A notable 12th cent Anglo-Norman tympanum, from an earlier church is built into the north wall of the nave. There are striking wall paintings by J.Eadie Reid, which date from 1917. The church contains a village heritage centre and the registers of both Ipstones and Onecote can be viewed on microfiche.

Parish Records
Historic records of St Leonard, Ipstones have been deposited at Staffordshire Record Office, where they are available for consultation by the public. These include the parish registers of baptisms 1561-1716, 1727-1934, marriages 1561-1716, 1727-1948 and burials 1561-1716, 1727-1942. Also notable are the fairly comprehensive poor law papers for the late 18th century.

A catalogue of these records is available in "Gateway to the Past" (http://www.archives.staffordshire.gov.uk) - the online catalogue of the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service. The Archive Service's website (http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/archives) provides further information on planning a visit to the office to consult records, should you wish to do so.
