St. Bartholomew's, Blore Ray

The Church

A fine 15th cent. church with 14th cent. tower; the interior still retains its 16th cent. box pews and choir stalls while the screen (also 16th cent.) retains traces of its original paint. There is 15th cent. stained glass depicting Christ wearing the crown of thorns and St. Anne teaching the Virgin Mary in one window of the chancel. The Basset family have left behind them 15th cent brasses of William Bassett and his wife and the family chapel contains a magnificent 17th cent. canopied tomb.
